Who does what
Recipients
Tell us about a birthday. Yours, your kid’s, a neighbor’s, someone you support at work. We ask for a first name, a date, a ZIP code, and a cake preference. Nothing else is required.
Request a cakeDonors
Fund the next cake in line or pick a specific birthday. Gifts cover the cake and the small costs of getting it there. Give once or monthly, with your name or without it.
Give a cakeVolunteers
Pick up a finished cake from a partner bakery and bring it to the door. Most deliveries take under an hour. You choose how far you will go and when you are free.
Deliver a cakeBakeries
Take prepaid orders, offer a community rate, or donate the occasional cake. We handle the matching and the logistics. You do what you already do best.

- Who can request a cake?
- Anyone. You can ask for yourself or for someone else: a child, a parent, a friend, a client, a student, a resident, a patient. If there is a birthday, it counts.
- Do I need to prove financial hardship?
- No. You will never be asked to explain or document why you need help.
- Can I request a cake for someone else?
- Yes. Many requests come from teachers, caseworkers, nurses, neighbors, and family. Just let us know your relationship so we can coordinate delivery.
- Is a cake guaranteed?
- No. We try to fulfill every approved request, but fulfillment depends on donor, bakery, and volunteer availability in your area. We will always tell you where things stand.
- How far in advance should I request?
- At least 7 days is ideal. Shorter notice is fine. We will do our best, and some bakeries keep room for last-minute birthdays.
- Can I donate anonymously?
- Yes. Tick the anonymous box and we will not store or show your name.
- Can bakeries participate?
- Yes. Any local bakery can apply. You choose how you want to take part, from prepaid orders to donated cakes.
- What if someone has food allergies?
- Dietary needs are shared with the bakery that makes the cake. Cake It Forward cannot guarantee an allergen-free kitchen unless a bakery specifically represents that capability. Read our dietary disclaimer for details. Dietary disclaimer.
